4 Ways To Beat The Winter Blues
Here’s one for our UK residents… The clocks have been changed and the dark nights have finally taken over England. Making it a miserable, bleak, cold and wet place causing distress and the “holiday blues”.
Well here we have a list of 4 of the greatest places to visit that offer sunshine, light days and activities for all ages.
Average winter temps: 16 to 21-degrees
Flying time: 4.5 hours
Flights only: From £130
With flight times of just 4.5 hours, winter sunshine is virtually on our doorstep. While the coastal waters will be too cold for all but the keenest swimmers, Cyprus is a haven for all-year sunshine – averaging twice the average of that in the UK – so don’t forget to pack your tee-shirts and shorts. I advise that you buy your euros before you arrive on the island to ensure the best exchange rates. We’d advise you head to the western end of the island, with the lively Paphos resort and unspoilt Akamas peninsula.
Average winter temps: 18 to 32-degrees
Flying time: 14 hours
Flights only: From £350
White sands and turquoise seas, British winter will be banished from your mind the moment you step out of the plane. There’s a plethora of destinations to choose from, including anything from the sophistication of Koh Samui to the more relaxed atmosphere of Koh Lanta island. With temperatures ranging from 18 to 32-degrees during November to February, this makes our winter a great time to visit Thailand – many will find the high-summer heat too oppressive. Coastal waters will also be inviting during these winter months.
Look out of your window right now and tell us that you wouldn’t swap that view for a sunny Thai beach…
Average winter temps: 17 – 21-degrees
Flying time: 3.5 hours
Flights only: From £160
No guide to winter sun would be complete without a visit to the Canary Islands. It’s no surprise the islands top many sun-seekers’ lists, either, with winter temperatures that rarely fall below 17 degrees. It’s so close – with just a 3.5 hour flight from Gatwick – it also makes a great destination for a weekend top-up of serotonin. From the popular Playa del Ingles and Playa de las Americas resorts, to the smaller islands of La Gomera, La Palma and El Hierro – there’s a resort and island to suit your needs.
Average winter temps: 22-32 degrees
Flying time: 21 hours
Flights only: From £500
Australia’s second-largest city is quite arguably second to none, with in-the-know locals and avid Aussie visitors declaring Melbourne the more sophisticated, savvier sister of Sydney. A cosmopolitan melting pot, with more than a third of its residents born abroad – Melbourne (pronounced Mel-bun) is the cultural capital of the continent, with a magnificent array of eateries, boutiques, and nightlife options reflective of its fashionable and worldly patrons. Its vibrant riverfront attractions, fine European architecture, central squares, renowned zoo, botanic gardens, and galleries add to the allure of a visit to one of our top winter destinations – all augmented by the fact that while we’re mulling about in the dead of winter here, summer is in full swing Down Under.
Flight times and cost are based on people travelling from the uk.
